Beyond making art, some things I live for are historical fiction, Studio Ghibli films, travel scheming, wildflowers and gardens, and snail mail.

Shasta Grant was born and raised in Nova Scotia. With an early fascination for all things art-related, she began painting regularly as a teenager. Drawing on the influences of synesthesia, storybook illustration, Impressionism, Nova Scotian weather and a love for animals, she creates acrylic paintings which often depict animals in their own habitat or typical Maritime landscapes. Equally inspired by the subject and the paint itself, she aims to work with light, place, and experimental colour combinations in a way which brings out both the intrigue of the subject and a playful relationship between the subject and the medium. The works start out expressive and reckless and are gradually refined, the finished result incorporating both realistic elements and abstract shapes.

Shasta's paintings have been exhibited in cafes and galleries in the Annapolis Valley and beyond, many of which have found homes across Canada. In 2009 she helped to create Jack's Gallery, a non-profit art gallery in Wolfville which supports young, emerging and local artists.
